From our Delivery Services in Amsterdam and Berkel en Rodenrijs, we deliver all kinds of orders to our customers — from crates of soft drinks to cookies, from kegs of beer to fresh vegetables. You name it, we deliver it. As a Driver, you make sure all orders arrive on time. You play an important role, because thanks to you, our customers can continue welcoming their own guests and serving delicious dishes and matching drinks without interruptions.
A diverse customer base
As a Driver or Driver’s Assistant, you are the face of Sligro and the person who ensures that orders are delivered to our customers at the agreed time. Your customer base in Amsterdam and Berkel & Rodenrijs is very diverse: from luxury hotels to snack bars, and from fine‑dining restaurants to the pub on the corner. This requires a flexible attitude, as well as a solution‑oriented and customer‑focused mindset. In short: a responsible and service‑oriented role you can be proud of!

“I always wanted to become a truck driver. It just never happened, until I got the opportunity to obtain my C driving licence through one of Sligro’s former transport partners, while I was working for Sligro via them. That’s when I decided to go for it. In the meantime, I’ve joined Sligro directly, and I’m really happy here.
What I enjoy most about my job? The customers and the dynamic world of hospitality! From restaurants and local cafés to hotels and cinemas — every customer is different and no day is the same. That variety makes the job incredibly fun. During vacation periods, like summer holidays, it’s often extra busy for my customers. When that happens, I help out by quickly putting items in the fridge or unpacking something. Customers really appreciate this. Because I drive fixed routes in Schagen and the surrounding area, I’ve built a real connection with the people I see regularly. That personal contact gives me a great feeling.
At Sligro, I drive a brand-new electric truck, which is fantastic. It drives smoothly, is quiet, and looks great. It makes me proud to hit the road with top-quality equipment. I’m also a mentor for new drivers at Sligro — something I really enjoy. I take the time to show them every step of the job: from using the PDA to building strong customer relationships. “Sixteen years ago, I started as a Truck Driver at De Kweker, now part of Sligro Food Group. These days, I drive one of Sligro’s brand‑new electric trucks. It drives incredibly well, is quiet, and comes equipped with all the bells and whistles, such as cameras and sensors. That’s extremely helpful — and safe — in a busy city. The trucks are always perfectly maintained by Sligro. If something is broken or damaged, it gets repaired right away. Sligro makes sure your truck is fully equipped with everything you need to work comfortably, such as sturdy hand trucks and loading plates. They’ve thought of everything.
As a Driver at Sligro, I visit all kinds of different customers, about 12 to 15 per day. I chat with everyone, and that’s what makes my job so enjoyable. I would never want to just drive from A to B. There’s also a great atmosphere among colleagues, which I find important. We start the day together in the coffee room, and when we return, we always catch up again. Of course, there’s plenty of joking around, but people also truly listen when you have a problem.
We drive mainly during the day. I personally start around 5 a.m., which means I’m finished around 2 p.m. — something I really appreciate. I also enjoy driving in the busy city, but if you prefer starting later or want different routes, that’s all open for discussion. At Sligro, they really take your preferences into account.”

“After years of working in disability care, I decided last year to finally pursue the dream I had as a child: becoming a Truck Driver. I saw a Sligro vacancy that mentioned you could apply even without a C driving licence. I applied immediately, and within a week I was invited for an interview. After that, I was able to join a driver for a day to see if the job was really for me. It definitely was, and soon after I started at Sligro.
The introduction period at Sligro felt like a warm welcome. The guidance was fantastic; I was really given the time to learn the profession properly. I started as a driver’s assistant, which is ideal because you immediately gain practical experience. That’s also how I learned to work with the tablet and the PDA we use during our routes. At the same time, I began studying for my theory and taking driving lessons. I could take my lessons close to home, which was great. I also received training in loading and unloading, as well as maneuvering training to learn how to drive in more challenging environments. After four months, I passed my C driving test on my first attempt, and I was able to hit the road right away. During the first two weeks, a mentor accompanied me to help whenever needed. After that, I went out independently with my own driver’s assistant.
This profession is often seen as a ‘men’s job’, but I think I’m proof that women can absolutely do this work too. Soon I’ll start training for my CE driving licence through Sligro, so I’ll also be allowed to drive with trailers. I’m already looking forward to it!”

“My life as a Truck Driver spans about twelve years, most of which I’ve spent working for Sligro. I originally started as a Team Leader in a warehouse, and I accidentally rolled into the world of truck driving when my department was closed. I had already obtained my C driving licence during my military service, which made the transition easy.
What I love most about this job is the driving itself. You never know exactly what you’ll encounter while maneuvering that big, recognizable Sligro truck through the narrow streets and along the busy canals of Amsterdam. You almost need a sixth sense to get through it without a scratch. That’s what makes the job challenging and different every single day. The customer contact also makes my day enjoyable. Because you see many customers at least once a week, you really get to know them.
As a Driver at Sligro, I usually work during the day. That means I start early in the morning and also get home early. This gives you plenty of time for groceries, parent–teacher meetings at school, or anything else that needs to be taken care of. It saves you from having to take a day off, which I consider a big plus.
My colleagues also make Sligro a great place to work. Everyone looks out for each other — sharing tips on the best routes during roadworks or where to park the truck most easily. And if you ever have a bit of bad luck, there’s always a colleague who will come help you out.”
